Cricket Australia officials will meet with Usman Khawaja this week to address his recent criticism of the Perth pitch, which he labeled as "a piece of s***." This comes as the governing body evaluates potential sanctions for the opener's remarks, which have sparked debate among cricket enthusiasts.

Khawaja's comments on Friday, just a day after the ICC rated the pitch as "very good," caused a stir. He criticized the surface's unpredictable bounce, noting that 19 wickets fell on the first day of the Test, and 17 in the previous year's series opener against India. These observations have left CA officials disappointed, leading to a scheduled conversation with Khawaja ahead of the second Ashes Test at the Gabba.

The Perth Test, the shortest in Australia in 93 years, saw just 847 balls bowled. Khawaja's comments at a fundraising lunch for his foundation highlighted the pitch's issues, including the ball's lack of reaction and the unpredictable bounce that affected players' performance. He also mentioned Steve Smith's struggle, despite his exceptional skills.

CA officials, however, praised the pitch, with Chief of Cricket James Allsopp emphasizing the ICC's rating as validation of the pitch's fairness. The rating also drew attention to England's poor batting, with former England opener Geoffrey Boycott labeling it as "brainless."

Despite CA's positive stance, Khawaja maintained his criticism, focusing on the pitch's variable bounce. He explained that the unpredictable nature of the bounce made it challenging for players to adapt, especially on the first day. Khawaja's comments have raised concerns about his position at the top of the order, with questions about his fitness and form in Perth.

Back spasms prevented Khawaja from opening for Australia in both innings, allowing Travis Head to score a match-winning century. Khawaja remains confident in his fitness for the Brisbane Test, while also dismissing calls for his removal from the team. The upcoming conversation between Khawaja and CA officials will be crucial in addressing these concerns and shaping the team's strategy for the upcoming matches.
