🚨 Major TFT Update Alert! 🚨 This isn't just another patch—it's a game-changer. With Patch 16.3, we're diving deep into system overhauls, champion reworks, and leveling adjustments that will reshape your strategy. But here's where it gets controversial: we're making it harder to reach Level 9, which might just flip the meta on its head. And this is the part most people miss: the subtle yet impactful changes to auras and unlock rules that could redefine your approach to team building. Whether you're a seasoned veteran or a newcomer, this patch has something to shake up your game. Let's break it down and explore the bold moves that could spark heated debates in the community. Ready to dive in? Let's go! 🕹️
LEVELING
We’ve noticed a trend among high-rank players: skipping Level 8 is becoming too common. To address this, we’re making the jump to Level 9 more challenging by increasing the gold cost by 8, making it cheaper to go from Level 9 to 10 than from 8 to 9. This adjustment aims to balance the leveling curve, even in lobbies without inflated economies from Prismatics or Opening Encounters. Here’s the breakdown:
- XP from Level 8-9: Increased from 68XP to 76XP
ENCOUNTERS
Some Augments have been a bit too synergistic with specific Opening Encounters, so we’re banning a few to keep things fair. Here’s what’s getting the axe:
- Gwen’s Gifts: Crafted Crafting disabled
- Emblem Ensemble: Coronation, Cursed Crown, Flexible, Legion of Three’s, Tactician’s Kitchen, and U.R.F disabled
AURAS
Auras are getting a much-needed update. Previously, aura champions would lose their aura upon death, which felt unintuitive. Now, auras like Shyvana’s, Skarner’s, and Taric’s will persist even after the champion falls. This is a significant buff, but don’t worry—Taric’s getting a compensation nerf to keep things balanced. Here’s the scoop:
- Persistent Auras: Shyvana, Skarner, Taric
UNLOCK RULES UPDATE
We’ve learned a lot from the Unlock system since the launch of Lore & Legends. One key insight? Three-star 4-cost units were appearing too frequently, leaving little room for counterplay. To address this, we’re adjusting the odds for both 4 and 5-cost units. Uncontested units (those you’re the only one unlocking) will be harder to three-star, while contested units (those multiple players are unlocking) will be slightly easier to two-star. Here’s the breakdown:
- Unlockable 4 and 5-costs: Harder to three-star uncontested
- Contested Units: Easier to two-star, but still harder to three-star
UNLOCK CONDITIONS
We’re all about making comps more accessible and fun. Take those screenshots of players with a two-star Viego opener and minimal item components—we’re here to help. Here are the key changes:
- Kai’Sa Level Requirement: Reduced from 8 to 7
- Orianna: Now requires 2 items on a Piltover Champion instead of 3
- Tryndamere & Yorick Item Requirements: Reduced from 2 to 1
- Warwick: Now requires 1 item on Vi AND Jinx, with no 2-star requirement
TRAITS
Tempo Bilgewater has been dominating high-elo play, pushing for early levels, units, and item slams to secure an early game lead. To address this, we’re halving the Serpent takedown bonus, making it less oppressive. Darkin, despite its difficult breakpoint, wasn’t delivering enough impact, so we’re significantly boosting its rewards for collecting Darkin weapons. Ixtal’s getting some love too, with adjustments to make its quests more worthwhile and ensure that cashing out with 700 Sunshards guarantees a two-star Brock (with Champion Duplicators). Here are the key changes:
- Bilgewater Free AD/AP: Reduced from 20% to 15%
- Bilgewater 2-Cost Serpent Cost: Increased from 30 to 35
- Bilgewater Serpents Per Takedown: Reduced from 2 to 1
- Darkin (3) Piece Damage: Increased from 100 to 333
- Ixtal Quest Adjustments: Reduced requirements for reroll and interest quests
- Ixtal Cashout Rewards: Enhanced rewards for 700, 800, and 900 Sunshards
UNITS: TIER 1-5
From Blitzcrank’s Mana buff to Aurelion Sol’s Stardust rework, we’re fine-tuning units across the board. Diana and Leona are finally reuniting, with Diana gaining AP based on Leona’s survival time. Fizz is getting a damage nerf but a doubled Attack Speed bonus to keep him annoying without being overpowered. Taric’s invulnerability window is being replaced with a more consistent heal over time. Here’s a glimpse of the changes:
- Blitzcrank Mana: Reduced from 60/120 to 60/105
- Diana Shield Duration: Now ends when her dashes end
- Fizz Splash Damage: Reduced from 110/165/450 AP to 75/115/450 AP
- Taric Heal: Replaces 90% Durability with a heal over 2 seconds
CORE & RADIANT ITEMS
We’re buffing underperforming core items and giving Nashor’s Tooth an AP boost to maintain its identity in caster builds. Artifacts are getting a tweak too, with items like Darkin Scythe and Dawncore receiving adjustments. Here’s what’s changing:
- Edge of Night: Now heals for 30% of missing health after invulnerability
- Nashor’s Tooth AP: Increased from 15 to 20
- Darkin Scythe Health: Increased from 0 to 250
AUGMENTS
World Runes is taking a backseat for now, as it’s become unbalanceable at lower skill levels. In its place, we’re introducing Cosmic Calling, a new Augment to help you live out your Targon dreams. Other Augments like Growth Mindset and Aura Farming are also getting tweaks. Here’s the lowdown:
- Cosmic Calling: Gain a Spear of Shojin, Leona, and Taric on Stage 3-7
- Growth Mindset: Re-enabled with adjusted XP requirements
- World Runes: Temporarily removed
BUG FIXES & MISCELLANEOUS
We’re squashing bugs and addressing unintended interactions, from Darius’s Mana Lock issues to Bilgewater item quirks. Here’s a quick rundown:
- Darius Mana Lock: Fixed rare cases of unintended Mana Lock
- Bilgewater Items: Resolved unintended interactions
- Void Mutations: No longer persist from higher tiers
Final Thoughts
