Northern Ireland’s Matthew Hamilton and Swedish diver Peder Saur Hubred have committed to Auburn University as part of the Tigers’ 2026 recruiting class.

Hamilton, from Lisburn, Northern Ireland, recently represented his country at the European Aquatics Championships (SCM) this month, delivering lifetime-best marks in both the 50 butterfly (23.91) and the 100 fly (52.60).

“I am excited to announce my verbal commitment to Auburn University where I will pursue my swimming for the next 4 years. Thank you to everyone who has made this journey possible and I am excited for what the future holds. War Eagle!”

Earlier in the year, Hamilton competed at the LEN European Junior Championships (LCM). His standout performance came in the 100 fly, where he advanced to the semifinals in 54.08, finishing 13th, with a prelims time of 53.82—the fastest he has ever swum. He also placed 16th in the 50 free with a 23.11. His other long-course bests include 50.35 in the 100 free and 1:54.32 in the 200 free.

Converted to short course yards (SCY), his times project as follows:
- 50 Free: 19.58
- 100 Free: 43.91
- 200 Free: 1:40.10
- 100 Fly: 47.22

The Auburn men finished 8th at the 2025 SEC Swimming and Diving Championships.

Using Hamilton’s conversions, projections would place him just outside the alternate list in the 50 free (27th), 32nd in the 100 fly, and 47th in the 100 free.

Saur Hubred comes from Sweden and has competed at several major international events early in his career. He participated in the 2024 World Aquatics Junior Diving Championships, achieving personal bests on the 1-meter (334.25), 3-meter (416.60), and the 10-meter platform (365.00).

Two years earlier, he competed at the World Junior Diving Championships at age 15, where he finished 22nd in the 1-meter event with a score of 295.55.

His best scores are:
- 1-meter: 334.25
- 3-meter: 416.60
- 10-meter Platform: 365.00

Among Auburn’s SEC Championship divers, Whit Andrus led the way on the 1-meter board, finishing 7th in the finals with 340.10. Talan Blackmon followed with a 16th-place finish at SECs and a 1-meter score of 298.10. The Tigers did not place a finalist on the 3-meter board, with Andrus and Blackmon finishing 18th and 19th, respectively, just short of the consolation finals. Andrus also led Auburn on the platform, scoring 327.70 for 13th.

Hamilton and Saur Hubred join Sebestyen Papp and Mike Rice in Auburn’s 2026 recruiting class.

Thought-provoking note: As Auburn builds its 2026 class with international talents, how should programs balance national versus global recruitment to maximize depth and performance? Do you believe international divers and swimmers bring greater versatility to a college team, or should emphasis stay on domestic development? Share your thoughts in the comments.
