2026 Corvette ZR1 DESTROYS Lap Record at Mosport | 1:18.2 with Ron Fellows! (2026)

The Corvette ZR1's Dominance Continues: Breaking Lap Records and Captivating Audiences

The Chevrolet Corvette ZR1, a powerhouse in the automotive world, continues to defy expectations and shatter lap records. In 2025, Chevy showcased its supercar's prowess by setting new benchmarks across five iconic circuits. Now, the ZR1 has added another remarkable achievement to its already impressive list of accomplishments.

A 2026 Corvette ZR1, driven by the legendary Canadian racer Ron Fellows, achieved a groundbreaking time of 1:18.2 at the Mosport production car record. This feat surpasses the previous record set by a 2023 Z06, also driven by Fellows, with a time of 1:22.12. Fellows' expertise and his ownership of the Canadian Tire Motorsports Park, where he has raced Corvettes for decades, make him the ideal candidate for this challenge.

The ZR1's success is attributed to its formidable 1,064-horsepower engine and the ZTK package, which enhances downforce. Fellows explains, "With more downforce, we can be more aggressive in corner entry. In Turn 8, I maintained the same braking point as with the Z06 but at a speed over 20 miles per hour faster."

The ZR1's engine, a twin-turbocharged 5.5-liter V-8, delivers exceptional performance, accelerating from 0-60 mph in just 2.3 seconds. The optional downforce package further boosts its capabilities, generating up to 1,200 pounds of downward force.

This record-breaking performance at Mosport joins the ZR1's impressive lap times at Watkins Glen, Road America, Road Atlanta, and two layouts at Virginia International Raceway. Additionally, the ZR1X, a larger variant, boasts a record lap run at the renowned Nurburgring in Germany.

The car's involvement in the Stars & Steel collection adds a layer of intrigue. While setting new records at a Canadian track with a Canadian driver, Chevy emphasizes the car's origins. This could be a strategic move to promote the upcoming limited-edition ZR1 model in 2026.

Regardless of the motive, the ZR1's performance is awe-inspiring. Ron Fellows' achievement at Mosport solidifies his status as the Magician of Mosport, and the ZR1 cements its position as a true North American supercar.
